Saturday at the Museum: Pedieos’s Footsteps

This educational programme invites children to discover the history of the Pedieos River and explore the importance of water in the development of Nicosia and in the everyday lives of its inhabitants throughout the centuries. Using artworks from the Costas and Rita Severis Collection as a starting point, students observe landscapes and scenes of daily life, exploring the ways in which the river influenced the growth of the city, agriculture, trade and the lives of its residents.

Through observation and discussion, children discover the flora that grows along the Pedieos River, identify flowers, trees and other elements of the Cypriot natural environment depicted in the artworks, and understand the importance of protecting nature. At the same time, they explore how artists captured the Cypriot landscape during different historical periods and how art can serve as a valuable source for understanding history.

The programme concludes with a creative art workshop, where children create an artistic collage inspired by the Pedieos River. Through drawing, cutting and composing, they create their own vision of Nicosia, bringing together elements of nature and the urban landscape.

This activity is held in Greek.
